ANDERSON TABBED SOCON PLAYER OF THE WEEK
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Chattanooga women's basketball player Alex Anderson
was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for the week ending
Nov. 21, the league office announced Tuesday.
Anderson, a junior from Stone Mountain, Ga., recorded two double-doubles
to help the Lady Mocs open the 2006-07 season with a 3-1 record. The
forward tallied 23 points and five rebounds in Chattanooga's 80-56 win
over Austin Peay on November 11. Against Clemson last Thursday she
recorded career-highs in both points (24) and rebounds (18) in the Lady
Mocs' 73-64 victory. In action against UAB last night, Anderson scored
18 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in Chattanooga's 70-63 win. She
has four blocked shots on the year which ranks her first on the all-time
charts for the Lady Mocs with 102 for her career.
On the week, Anderson averaged 18.0 points per game and a .571 field
goal percentage including tallying 38 rebounds and 11 assists.
Other top performers include Appalachian State's Whitney Tossie,
Davidson's Danielle Hemerka, Elon's Tierra Bumbrey, Georgia Southern's
Tiffany Brown, UNCG's Jasmine Byrd, Western Carolina's Monique Dawson
and Wofford's Summer Nichols.
