What could be better than a relaxing Sunday afternoon? Why, one spent
listening to great music beautifully played, of course!
At 3:00 pm on Sunday afternoon, April 14, 2002, the UTC Symphony Orchestra
will present its final concert of the 2002-03 season in the Roland Hayes
Concert Hall. Antonin Dvorak's beloved "New World" Symphony is the
principal work, with the beautiful Largo movement (popularly known as
"Goin' Home", and loosely based on "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot") featuring
the concert debut of UTC's new english horn, played by UTC junior music
major Adam Puryear.
Dr. Jonathan McNair will start off the program by conducting his rousing
"USA March Variation" from "The Millenium Nutcracker". The program will
also feature recent UTC music graduate Bret Alford playing Koussevitsky's
famous String Bass Concerto. Rounding off the program will be music from
Prokofiev's "Lieutenant Kije Suite", including the famous "Troika".
The program is free and open to the public. Ample free parking is
available in the Lupton Library Parking garage, just a short walk from the
Fine Arts Center.
We hope to see you there!
