Dear Colleagues,

Previous notes from me have informed the campus of resources coming our way
from state government for the operating budget and for the capital budget
for priority renovations and improvements to the campus.

This note is to inform you of significant federal revenue appropriated as
program support for 2004 - 2005 fiscal/academic year. (Numerous other
faculty research and/or demonstration projects are reported individually by
Grants Office personnel at the time of award.)

The following is the list of Congressional "Earmarks".

1) Acquire disc array, file server, work stations, router/switch, 72-node
compute server, and support for Graduate School of Computational
Engineering..... $491,782;

2) Acquire gigabit infini band switch and 500 node compute server for
Graduate School of Computational Engineering ....$984, 159;

3) Research support into numerical simulation aspects of global climate
change....$725,000;

4) Acquire and test 5 kw Solid Oxide Fuel Cell from IonAmerica. Evaluate
by Computational Engineering possible and potential of use of Fuel Cell for
commercial utilization by UTC and/or Chattanooga private
development...   $2,485,250;

5)  Riverbend Technolgy Institute....$496,750;

6) National Biological Information web-based infrastructure
support...  $800,000.

I would express gratitude to the efforts of the Computational Engineering
faculty and for the significant governmental affairs efforts of John
Schearer and Missy Crutchfield. Of course, the most thanks of all go to
Congressman Zach Wamp.

These additional $5,9982,941 represent a significant first in diversified
funding sources to help meet the research mission of UTC.

Thanks,

Bill
