By the sam token, we faculty members, who are advisosrs of record for any
students, should be available to meet with the students. Here in Foreign
Languages & Literatures, we have had to be hard-hearted and turn away
students who were not our advisees and wanted their advisement code from us
because they could never find their advisor in the office. One of them
reported that his advisor was in the office, but had posted a sign on the
door requesting students not disturm him or her. If we're going to enforce
the rules on the students, we should also be addressing lack of adherence
to rules by advisors.
