Tom Patty, Director of the Challenger Center, was recently awarded $15,000
from the Chattanooga Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. to hold a
girl's day camp this summer. The LEGACY (Leadership Exploration for Girls
Across Chattanooga and BeYond) camp is aimed at improving the opportunities
and lives for young girls in the Chattanooga area. It will be a five-day
program and will involve events and activities at the Challenger Center,
Girls Preparatory School, Baylor School, Chattanooga State, and the Space
Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
Jack and Jill of America, Inc. was founded in 1938 and serves to provide
children an opportunity to learn about the history and culture of African
Americans. The Chattanooga Chapter, a chapter that has been very active
regionally and nationally, was founded in 1955.
Congratulations to Mr. Patty for securing the funds to offer this
opportunity to girls in the Chattanooga area.
