Users of the Library’s ERL WebSPIRS 5 databases have reported experiencing dropped connections at random times during their search sessions. As a result of this problem, users are prompted to enter a non-existent WebSPIRS username and password, and all prior search results are lost. This problem has affected both on-campus and off-campus users. A list of the databases affected by this issue follows this message.
The Library, with help from the IT Division and the vendor of WebSPIRS, is working vigorously toward resolving this issue. In the meantime however, a temporary workaround has been established which should provide better connections for off-campus users.
By accessing the WebSPIRS databases from off-campus (www.lib.utc.edu/arc.html), users may now utilize a different connection method which should eliminate the problem of random disconnections. While this new connection method is not yet available at the Library or at other on-campus locations, we hope to duplicate this very soon.
The following databases are affected by this issue:
*Books-in-Print
*CINAHL
*ERIC
*MedLine
*MLA Bibliography
*PAIS International
*PsycINFO
*Sociological Abstracts
*Sport Discus
We apologize for any inconvenience this disruption has caused, and thank you for your continued patience. If you need assistance using these databases or utilizing alternative sources, please visit the Library's Reference Desk.
