Dr. J. Hill Craddock, an Assistant Professor of Biology in the Department
of Biological and Environmental Sciences, has been awarded $15,000 from
Dollywood to conduct chestnut tree research.
Dr. Craddock leads the Chattanooga Chestnut Tree Project which strives to
restore the American chestnut tree to the Southern Appalachian and
Cumberland Plateau Regions. Funds for the project will further the
program's mission: research of biological control of the chestnut blight
disease and establishment of a commercial chestnut industry with improved
cultivars. Dr. Craddock's project is a great benefit to our region,
bringing back a struggling element of our local environment, and it also
offers valuable applied experience and research opportunities to the UTC
students who participate in the program.
Congratulations to Dr. Craddock, and best of luck for the success of his
project!
