Hello,

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is accepting applications to its
Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) program. MRI funds research equipment
in engineering, mathematics, and the biological, computer, physical,
social, behavioral, economic, and geological sciences. Universities may
request funds for a single instrument, a large system of instruments, or
multiple instruments that share a common or specific research focus.

NSF has $75 million available to make 300 awards. Last year, 42% of MRI
proposals were funded, including an award to the UTC Chemistry Department.
UTC does not have to provide any match if a proposal requests less than
$100,000; amounts over $100,000 must be matched 30%. Applications are
due January 24th.

Background information, including frequently-asked questions and past
awards, is available at http://www.nsf.gov/od/oia/programs/mri/start.htm
MRI application guidelines are at http://www.nsf.gov/cgi-bin/getpub?nsf01171

Please let me know if you are interested in applying for an MRI grant.
