The Cadek Department of Music, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, is
pleased to present a combined concert by the *UTC Symphony Orchestra*,
under the direction of Steven Bird, and the *Chattanooga Singers*, under
the direction of Glenn Draper, at 8 pm on Monday, October 11, 1999, in the
Roland Hayes Concert Hall on the UTC campus.  Glenn Draper will conduct the
chorus and orchestra in selections from Johannes Brahms' "German Requiem".
Steven Bird will lead the choral/orchestral version of Tchaikovsky's "1812
Overture", with over 140 performers involved, including an 80 member
chorus, 55 member orchestra, plus extra brass and percussion in the finale,
including a "cannon"!.

Also featured on the program will be one of the winners of the 1999 UTC
Symphony Orchestra Student Concerto Competition, Mr. Bret Alford.  Mr.
Alford will perform the "Concerto for String Bass and Orchestra" by
Dragonetti.  A junior majoring in music performance at UTC, Alford is
principal bassist with the UTC Symphony Orchestra, and also a regular
member of the Chattanooga Symphony.

The UTC Symphony will also perform Aaron Copland's delightful "Outdoor
Overture".  The program is free and open to the public.  For further
