Sequatchie Valley Institute at Moonshadow
Spring 2002 Events Calendar

The Craft of Fruit Tree Grafting. Sunday, April 7, 1:00-4:30 CST. Learn
about the ancient art of grafting. It's easy to learn how to graft branches
from those old heritage apple trees onto healthy dwarfing rootstocks. Hill
Craddock of UTC will teach the workshop. You will take home your own newly
grafted apple or pear. $20 to $35 sliding scale includes hands-on
instruction, all materials, a tree, and a tour of our gardens and
solar-powered facilities.

Annual Lane Cove Spring Wildflower Hike and Open House. Saturday, Apr. 13,
10:00 CST. Free and open to the public. Come hike along our nature trails
and tour our gorgeous permaculture gardens and hand-crafted solar-powered
structures. Learn about our region's spectacular wildflowers on guided
hikes with Naturalist and TN Aquarium Horticulturist Christine Bock. The
hikes (one more strenuous) will explore the spring flowers of beautiful Lane
Cove, located on the west escarpment of the Sequatchie Valley. The flowers
will be unique this spring due to recent forest fires. If you plan to hike,
bring lunch, water bottles, and outdoor gear. Email [log in to unmask]

Lunch and a Log. Sunday, April 14, 12:00-4:00 Central Time. Learn to
inoculate an oak log with Shiitake mushrooms. Your inoculated log will
produce nutritious and delicious mushrooms for several years. $25 to $40
sliding scale includes hands-on instruction, a mushroom-filled garden-fresh
lunch and your own log to take home. Also included is a tour of our gardens
and solar-powered facilities.
