Here's The Latest from The President's Council on Physical Fitness and
Sport. It was taken from Series 5, Number 3, September 2004 Research Digest
entitled "Seeing Ourselves through the Obesity Epidemic."

"Much of the increase in obesity in the past 20 years has been associated
with environmental rather than genetic factors. Leading candidates include
less physical activity and lower caloric expenditure, more time in sedentary
pursuit (TV, Interned and video games), less walking to work , school and in
neighborhoods, larger portion sizes, greater consumption of refined
carbohydrates, and lack of active time in schools and at the worksite."

"Recent estimates of prevalence have shown obesity has increased 50% or more
over the past decade in every state, with direct annual health costs
estimated at $90 Billion."

"According to the most recent CDC Survey, greater than 70% of U.S. Adults do
not achieve the recommended levels of moderate and vigorous physical
activity that have been associated with important health outcomes, and more
than 30% of adults report no leisure time physical activity."

"The ecological evidence which links physical activity (or a lack of
activity) to obesity is impressive: Sedentary jobs have increasingly
replaced jobs with significant physical demands. The number of cars and time
spent in cars has increased. Required physical activity classes have been
drastically reduced in many schools and eliminated in others."

Folks, we had better "Get off our 'Fatty Acids'." If not, the estimated
Health Care Cost by the year 2010 will exceed $1.2 Trillion.

Please add physical activity to your regular daily activity.
