Chattanooga's Maya Peel Named TIAA/CREF SoCon Student-Athlete of the
Week

SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Southern Conference has named Chattanooga women's
soccer defender Maya Peel as the TIAA/CREF Student-Athlete of the Week
for the week of September 29 the league announced today.

A sophomore from Cape Coral, FL, Peel has helped the Lady Mocs to their
best start in Southern Conference history (2-0) after defeating Western
Carolina 3-0 and the College of Charleston 3-2. Peel scored a goal and
dished out the assist on Chattanooga's game-winning goal in
Chattanooga's win over the Catamounts. In the match against the College
of Charleston she handed out two assists including the assist on the
Lady Mocs game winning-goal against the Cougars. Peel ranks number seven
nationaly in assists with .86 assists per game and on the the Lady Mocs'
roster she ranks third in scoring with two goals and second in assists
with six.

Majoring in exercise science, Peel carries a 3.76 GPA in the classroom.

Peel is the second Chattanooga athlete to receive this award. Teammate
Tirza Ridgely was named Student-Athlete of the Week in just the second week
of competition this fall. This award is awarded to one Southern Conference
student-athlete each week.

The Lady Mocs are on the road this weekend at Davidson and The Citadel. The
women will return to Finley Stadium Friday, Oct. 8 in a SoCon match up with
Furman. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
