Come and join us at the Sequatchie Valley Institute for "Mules in the
Woods! A Sustainable Forestry Workshop". Celebrate Autumn's brilliance
and learn about sustainable use of our
beautiful Sequatchie Valley forest land on Saturday and Sunday, October 6-7.
*The emphasis of the workshop is on economically feasible and ecologically
sound woodland management.
*The use of mule teams for removing logs from the forest and the Art of
Directional Felling which enables the logger to drop trees without harming
neighboring trees will be demonstrated.
*Dr. Henry Spratt from UTC will discuss the effects of heavy machinery on
forest soils. The advantages of portable saw-mills for custom wood
production and utilization of pines killed by the pine bark beetle will be
demonstrated.
*On Sunday, there will be workshops on sustainable forest production
of shiitake mushrooms and virtually wild ginseng and a panel discussion on
modern forestry.
*COST for both days is $20-$50, depending on what participants can afford.
Scholarships are available.
*LOCATION: Sequatchie Valley Institute is located in the beautiful
