SUBJECT:        Change in carry-forward date for maximum annual leave
                for calendar year 2002.

The normal practice prescribed by University Personnel Policy 305 is that,
"Annual leave accrued in excess of the applicable maximum shall be
transferred to sick leave at the end of each calendar year."
As part of the University of Tennessee Employee Redress Plan relating to the
furlough of July 1 - 5, 2002, a change has been made for this year in the
date for transfer of maximum annual leave to sick leave. According to this
Redress Plan, "The date for assessing the maximum annual leave balance
available for carry forward has been changed from December 31, 2002, to June
30, 2003, to provide employees with sufficient time to schedule the use of
accumulated hours. On June 30, 2003, any annual hours in excess of the
maximum allowable carry forward amount will be transferred to sick leave."

In accordance with state law and Personnel Policy 305, any payments for
annual leave to employees terminating during this period will be no greater
than the maximum allowable carry forward amount. Annual leave maximum
amounts vary according to employee classification and years service, defined
in Personnel Policy 305, accessible on-line at:
