Over 250 high school students participated in the 2004 UTC TRI-STATE HONOR BAND this Friday and Saturday. The festival was a great success with standing room only for both the Blue and Gold Bands. The students played beautifuly, were well behaved, and left very pleased with their experience.

This is an extremely difficult event to manage and requires the efforts of UTC band members who worked very hard to facilitate the event as well as provide outstanding public relations.

I want to thank Ms. Nancy Leamon for the hours of work she puts in every year to make this happen. She organizes the students, sets schedules, contacts particpating schools and directors etc etc etc. Her tasks and efforts are monumental. Also thanks to the professors (Nikolasa Tejero, Monte Coulter) who helped with the audition process and to those well who gave up their offices.

A big thank you to UTC as many universities have dropped the honor band program due to lack of support and the unwillingness of administration to free up their calendars. UTC is very cooperative and appreciates the hundreds of potential academic achievers that this event brings. Represented were, 21 high schools from three states as well as several home schoolers.

A final note to Facilites who did a wonderful job with the landscape process (mulching etc... even though it was not for the purpose of Tri-State). We had many compliments on the neatness of the grounds and the building. Further, Aramark did an excellent job with the catering.

In all, an exceptional event, by an exceptional faculty and staff, for exceptional students.
