Birth of Light, a sculpture by Chattanooga artist Tommy Spake, will be
relocated to Highland Park from the First Street Sculpture Garden!
A celebration will be held on Friday, October 20th at 6pm at the Highland
Park Neighborhood Center to unveil Birth of Light in Highland Park.
Entertainment will be provided by the CSO Wind Quintet. Don Andrews,
president of Allied Arts, will make special remarks. This event is
sponsored by the Highland Park Neighborhood Association and Allied Arts. It
is free and open to the public. Light hors d'oeuvres will be served.
The celebration will continue after the unveiling! From 7-9pm an
after-party will be hosted by Highland Park residents at the Partnership
for Families, Children and Adults (1800 McCallie Avenue). The CSO Wind
Quintet will provide more entertainment. A $20 donation at the door
includes heavy hors d'oeuvres, libations, and two raffle tickets for the
chance to win art by Tommy Spake. Heavy hors d'oeuvres by
Chatt-a-Foodie. Linens provided by The White Table.
Birth of Light was created specifically for the First Street Sculpture
Garden, a rotating exhibit of eclectic sculptures created as part of the
21st Century Waterfront Plan. Exhibits rotate every 18-24 months and are
available for purchase.
The Highland Park Neighborhood Center was chosen as the home for Birth of
Light due to the fact that it is the true "beating" heart of the community.
Located at 1714 Duncan Avenue, the neighborhood center houses the Highland
Park reading center and is the location of all HPNA meetings. It is the
place where residents meet, discuss, plan and organize all things Highland
Park. The presence of public art at the Neighborhood Center will emphasize
to residents and passersby that this is a special and important place in
the community. It will also add life, interest, and inspiration to this area.
Birth of Light represents birth/rebirth and diversity. It symbolizes the
rebirth, revitalization of Highland Park and the diverse group of residents
that make up the community.
