Thanks to all of you, both within and outside the English Dept., who have
called to express concern about Ken. [For those who don't know, he
fractured his ankle--badly, in three places--during the English
Faculty/Student softball game Friday while running for a fly ball which, he
insists, he would have caught, and was taken by ambulance to Memorial.] He
had surgery Saturday morning and expects to be discharged Tuesday (Monday
with luck), though he'll need several weeks of physical therapy. He's
still on IV morphine but welcomes calls and visitors, if you're in the
area. Room 212.

Sorry I haven't been home to return calls; since I had to be here at UTC
anyway on this nice Sunday afternoon to retrieve some blue books for Ken, I
decided to use this means to answer questions. My apologies for taking up
buffer space of those who don't know him.

Special thanks to colleagues who have offered to take his classes this
next week. We won't know until after his physical therapy session tomorrow
how soon he'll be ambulatory, after which he may be calling on you. Thanks
again.
