I read somewhere a couple of days ago that someone said the disaster in 
Mississippi was a result of God's anger at the sinful iniquity of gambling 
in recent years, and this is a sign they should repent, etc.

So now we can blame God (or was it Satan?), socialism (or was it 
capitalism?), President Bush (or was it the democrats?).  Take your 
choice.  In Prof. Dumas' view, it was a result of all those folks becoming 
dependent on the government.  Silly people, spending tax money to have the 
government build levees, when they should have each been stacking sand bags 
around their own little plots of land.

For my two cents, I offer an alternative understanding of what it means to
