This e-mail is intended to alert UTC faculty about some of the problems that Linda and I have encountered since retiring from UTC July 1, 2005.
During orientation sessions we were told that plan 2 was the best BCBS plan to choose. I had back surgery Feb. 1, 2006 and BCBS has contributed virtually no secondary payments after Medicare A & B have been billed and paid parts of the medical bills. When we submitted our BCBS cards for drug purchases we found we had no coverage.
My COBRA dental plan has been cancelled THREE times by Nashville and I have been in the dentist office twice without knowing that. When I call Nashville to determine why they first asked if I was 65 (I am 68!) and they reinstated the coverage - the last time they blamed it on the "system". Each time it has been reinstated - it is supposed to last to Jan. 1, 2007. Linda has a different dental plan and submitted forms twice to have automatic payments from our bank account and we kept wondering why we were getting a bill for her coverage - after some dental work a few months ago she received a bill for $80 - when she called Nashville she found that her policy had been cancelled because of non-payment. While she was on the phone her forms were found but somehow were not activated - 6 months after submitted!
I hope this information will be helpful to faculty/staff who are contemplating retirement at UTC.
