The Department of Energy (DOE) has numerous world-class facilities where
more than 30,000 scientists and engineers perform research spanning DOE's
science, energy, national security, and environmental quality missions.
Each of the research facilities contributes to unique research capabilities
to the program and is utilized for experimental work by a broad base of
user groups from universities across the country and abroad. Several of
the research facilities are listed below.

Brookhaven National Laboratory-focuses on basic and applied research in the
physical, biomedical, and environmental sciences and selected energy
technologies. The web address is: http://www.bnl.gov/bnl.html

Argonne National Laboratory-mission is basic research and technology
development to meet national goals in scientific research, energy
technologies, environmental quality, and national security. The web
address is: http://www.anl.gov/

Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory-focuses research on
critical problems related to the environment, energy production and use,
U.S. economic competitiveness, and national security. The web address is:
http://www.inel.gov/

Ames Laboratory-seeks solutions to energy-related problems through the
exploration of chemical, engineering, materials, mathematical and physical
sciences. The web address is: http://www.external.ameslab.gov/

Stanford Linear Accelerator Center-is a national research laboratory that
does experimental and theoretical research in elementary practicle physics
using electron beams, plus a broad program of research in atomic and solid
state physics, chemistry, biology, and medicine using synchrotron
radiation. Their web address is: http://www.slac.stanford.edu/

Environmental Measurements Laboratory (EML) provides program management,
technical assistance and data quality assurance for measures of radiation
and radioactivity relating to environmental restoration, global nuclear
non-proliferation, and other priority issues for the Department of Energy.
EML conducts scientific and technical investigations related to
environmental surveillance and monitoring; site and facility
characterization; and decontamination and decomissioning. The web address
is: http://www.eml.doe.gov/
