Visitation will be this Thursday from 5 to 8 at the Chattanooga Funeral
Home on Hwy 153. This is the one across from Marshal Mize and Kmart. 
There will be a graveside service on Friday morning at 10am, with the
Service of the Resurrection following at the Signal Mountain
Presbyterian Church at 11:30am
Kathleen Long


Kathleen "Kathy" Long, 45, a resident of Signal Mountain, died
Wednesday, July 18, 2007.

Kathy was born in Orleans, France, but had made her home in Lexington,
Ky., and Lafayette, La., prior to moving to Tennessee in 1998. In 1979
she graduated from Lafayette High School in Lexington, Ky., and went on
to receive an undergraduate degree in accounting from Eastern Kentucky
University in 1983. In 1986 she became a certified public accountant and
in 1998, she received her MBA from the University of Louisiana at
Lafayette.

For the last seven years Kathy had been an assistant professor of
accounting at UTC. She was the director of internships for accounting
and finance for the UTC College of Business and most recently she had
been named a member of the board of directors for the American Society
of Women Accountants.

She was active in Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church and helped the Red
Bank High School Booster Club as well as the Red Bank girls' basketball,
volleyball and tennis teams.

Kathy was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick Geist, and a niece,
Natalie Neal.

Survivors include her loving husband, Dr. Michael Long, of Signal
Mountain; son, Ryan Long, who is a sophomore at the University of
Tennessee at Knoxville; daughter, Megan Long, who is a sophomore at Red
Bank High School; parents, William and Margaret Geist; six sisters,
Shirley (Randy) Denney, of Versailles, Ky., Beverly (Dean) Cornwell, of
Rotunda West, Fla., Sharon Neal, of Lexington, Ky., Barbara (Chuck)
Aldrich, of Nicholasville, Ky., Nancy (Carl) Shacklock, of Greenville,
Pa., and Debbie Geist, of Lexington, Ky.; one brother, Calvin (Donna)
Geist, of Georgetown, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 5 to 8 p.m.
Thursday, July 26, 2007, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home
and following the celebration service at the church Friday, July 27,
2007.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 27, 2007, in
Chattanooga Memorial Park.

A celebration of resurrection will follow at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Signal
Mountain Presbyterian Church with Dr. Bill Dudley officiating.

Larry Long, Randy Denney, Todd Thompson, Eric Teter, Jim Snyder and Pat
St. Charles will serve as pallbearers.

Members of her Signal Mountain and Chattanooga Tennis Group, and the
Bunco Teams of Signal Mountain and Lafayette, La., will serve as
honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions
be made to the Kathleen Long CPA Scholarship Fund, payable to UTC, 615
McCallie Ave, Department 6806, Chattanooga, TN 37403.
