Pick of the Week: All My Sons

I admit I am biased, but I must say this is one of the best pieces of
community theatre I have experienced in Chattanooga. Now that Riverbend is
past, I hope many more of you will come see this extraordinary, timeless
Arthur Miller play at the Chattanooga Theatre Centre.

As some of you are aware, we have announced the Patten Series for the
coming season. We have updated the website at www.utc.edu/finearts with
general information, and if you would like more complete details about the
individual events, come read the posters in our lobby display case at the
Fine Arts Center. With groups like Eroica Trio and the King's Singers,
scenes from the new opera Nosferatu, a Shakespeare weekend, hilarious
comedy acts and some of the best dance you may ever see, the Patten Series
is once again the prime ticket in Chattanooga.

Next week Lula Washington and her dance company will come to Chattanooga
from Los Angeles to work with students at the South Chattanooga and
Brainerd Recreation Centers. Their week of residency will culminate in an
performance by the students at 6:30 on Friday evening at the Fine Arts
Center. There will be no charge for the event, which is another good
example of ways UTC is working with local groups as part of our mission.

I hope everyone's summer is wonderful and that you will plan to join us at
the Fine Arts Center many times during the coming year.

Kim

>The Chattanooga Theatre Centre has offered some adventurous programming
>throughout this year, and this week continues to offer some rare treats.
>Arthur Miller's piercing drama, "All My Sons," completes its run this week
>with performances Thursday through Sunday.
>
>Even rarer, however, is the third installment of the "Forgotten Musicals"
>series CTC has produced this year, with a concert version of "Finian's
>Rainbow" this Friday and Saturday and next weekend. Written in 1947-with
>some dialogue and situations that show its age-"Finian's Rainbow"
>nonetheless still deals effectively with such timely issues as racism and
>bigotry, greed and pomposity, and of course, love, all through great songs
>and a witty script. It's filled with such hits as "Old Devil Moon" and
>"Look to the Rainbow."
>
>The outdoor concert action moves back to Miller Plaza this week as Nightfall
>resumes this Friday, featuring the alternative rock group, Luna.
