UTC will join organizations and communities across the nation participating
in the George Washington Bicentennial celebration with a program on Friday,
April 30 at 1 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center.
Throughout the year, the country will commemorate the 200th
anniversary of Washington's death by hosting lectures, concerts,
exhibitions, parades and other events celebrating the president's legacy
and to educate people across the nation about his contributions.
UTC's event will include national theme music from the UTC Wind
Ensemble and UTC Singers, as well as remarks made by UTC Chancellor Bill
Stacy; Dr. Herb Burhenn, UTC philosophy and religion department head; and
John Guerry, president of the University of Chattanooga Foundation.
Refreshments will be served.
Dr. North Callahan, chairman of the event, is also scheduled to
speak. Callahan is a former New York University history professor and the
author of two books on President Washington.
