The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga

Position Announcement: The University of Tennessee System is seeking
nominations and applications for the position of Chancellor of The
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC).  The Chancellor reports
directly to the UT President and administers the campus under policies
established by the Board of Trustees.  UTC is an engaged metropolitan
university in a mid-sized renaissance city that has gained international
attention for its downtown and riverfront development, public and private
partnerships, excellent quality of life, and reasonable living costs.  It
is the second largest campus in the UT System with a diverse student body
of approximately 8600 undergraduate and graduate students.  The four
colleges of the University offer more than 100 baccalaureate degrees, 12
graduate certificate programs, 18 master's degrees, an education specialist
degree, and three doctoral degrees.

UTC has an exceptional undergraduate honors program, ten Chairs of
Excellence, a broad array of endowed professorships, and the UT SimCenter
for Computational Engineering. The University of Chattanooga Foundation,
with an endowment in excess of 100 million dollars, supports student
scholarships, professorships, faculty development, and special enrichment
projects throughout the University.

Qualifications: Applicants should have an established record of
senior-level administrative experience, preferably in a higher education
institution; demonstrated leadership ability; the ability to guide the
development of a shared vision; and an earned doctorate with
accomplishments in scholarship and academic pursuits and/or exceptional
demonstrated leadership in other arenas. The successful candidate will have
a commitment to institutional quality; an understanding of the mission of
an engaged metropolitan university; experience with university
accreditation; the ability to work with and be an advocate for the
university with a variety of internal and external constituencies,
including the UT System; extensive experience in budget and financial
management; a demonstrated ability to attract external funding; an interest
in student, faculty, and staff development; an appreciation for the mix of
traditional arts and sciences and professional programs; and a demonstrated
commitment to diversity.

Applications and Nominations: Applications must include a letter of
application, at least three letters of recommendation, and an official
transcript.  Letters of nomination should include the name and contact
information for the nominee as well as a rationale for the
nomination.  Review of materials will begin on December 15, 2004, and will
continue until the position is filled.  Materials should be submitted
