Hello faculty and staff,
I forwarded the link to my chattanoogan.com article to the Mayor's chief
of staff. He sent me the following response yesterday afternoon:
> Dr. Dumas:
>
> Thank you for your email. I have shared this with Mayor Corker and he
> appreciates your input. I read with interest your letter to the
> Chattanoogan.
>
> Early in our administration we were approached by the MLK Neighborhood
> Association, the UTC administration and the council members from the
> districts affected and asked to help form a public process by which
> stakeholders could offer input, as you have done, around this issue. It is
> my understanding that this process is proceeding and that there has been
> lively comment representing many points of view. It is our hope that the
> will of people will win out on this, whatever that may be.
>
> I urge you to continue to make your feelings known to your council
> representative and in any other appropriate forum. Once again, thank you
> for sharing your feelings with us.
>
> Sincerely,
>
> Michael E. Compton
> Chief of Staff
Then, this morning he added the following information which may be of interest to those of you wishing to express your opinions on the subject:
> In case you would like to attend, I have just been informed that the next
> public meeting on this issue will be April 4, 2002 at 5:30 P.M. at the
> Central City Complex. The consultants will be in attendance.
Vice Chancellor Richard Brown has also stated, in Faculty Council, that
there will be an on-campus public forum regarding this issue. I do not
yet know when that will be, but hopefully he will be able to inform us
of the details soon. If you have a strong opinion one way or the other,
please try to attend at least one of these meetings and make your voice
heard.
