COUNCIL OF DEANS
November 9, 1999

PRESENT:  D. Arfken, B. Berry, H. Burhenn, B. Desmond, L. Fletcher, J.
Harbaugh, G. Janeksela, T. Lease, M. Tanner, M. Willis

Approval of Minutes
The minutes of October 26 and November 2, 1999, were approved.

Departmental Bylaws
Dr. Berry asked each dean to report on the progress that has been made in
revising departmental bylaws for their respective areas.

Residency Requirements
There was a brief discussion on the new undergraduate residency
requirements.  Dr. Berry asked the Council to review the policy and be
prepared to discuss at next week's meeting.

Provost's Announcements
Dr. Berry reported on President Gilley's inauguration which was held in
Knoxville on Friday, November 5.

Dr. Berry asked deans to review their requests for spring part-time and
pare down the request as needed.

School/College/Division Reports
Dr. Lease announced that Fall Visit Day will be held on Saturday, November
13.  He reminded deans to ensure that all departments have responded to Mr.
Yancy Freeman.

Dr. Bob Desmond announced that Dr. Mike Jones has agreed to move from his
position of Director of Freshman Program and Advising to that of Director
of Chemical, Electrical, Environmental, and Mechanical Engineering
Programs.  Dr. Gary McDonald will assume the position of Director of
Freshman Program and Advising.

Adjournment
A motion to adjourn was moved and seconded.
