Kim Wheetley, SCEA Director, is serving as a member of the Council of Chief
State School Officers' Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support
Consortium to develop standards as to what generalist teachers and
specialists should know about the arts. The goal of this 18-month project is
to create model standards for teacher licensing that can be reviewed by
professional organizations and state agencies as a basis for their own
standard-setting activities. The Fine Arts Committee is being chaired by
Jane Walters, Tennessee Commissioner of Education.

UTC receives important benefits when faculty and staff develop connections
with colleagues and professionals in service like this. We express our
congratulations and gratitude to Kim for serving in this capacity.
