Bill and Eileen,

Not only do I agree with both of your concerns, I would like to add my own.

There appears to be a perception of some kind of a "race" for
departments to get text book orders in. This creates stress and
anxiety for the secretaries who are made to feel like they are not
doing a good job if they don't get their textbook orders in as fast
as possible. Faculty need time to reveiw and reflect before they
submit their text book orders. That made me the "big heavy" who has
let the department down by not submitting my book orders.

Remember the congratulatory email a week or so ago from the bookstore
to those departments who had gotten their bookorder in on time. Isn't
this a bit childish and unprofessional?
