It was more than just a little ironic when, today at noon, I walked across
to the UC from my office in Brock. To my right I could see the table where
several young women were working on the Clothesline Project tee shirts that
tell the story of someone who has suffered domestic violence. To my left I
could see and hear a disc jockey who, at that point, was playing a Rap
number in which I could clearly hear the word that starts with a "B" and
rhymes with witch. The kind of disrespect of women that use of that word
entails is completely at odds with the concepts that the Clothesline
Project and the Green Dot program espouse. I would think that student
activities that hold the potential to promote disrespect for women and
violence against women would never be allowed sanctioned space and time on
our cmpus.
