To Fran Bender and the Provost Search Committee:

 

I want to thank Fran Bender and the members of the Provost search committee
for the important and sometimes thankless job for their service.  Anyone who
has ever served on a search committee for Dean, Provost, or Chancellor knows
the work and time it takes to go through that process.  The "best result"
occurs when a candidate is selected and accepts the position.  The "worst
fear" is for no one to accept or is acceptable and the process starts again.

 

I am thankful for the University community that Dr. Phil Oldham accepted the
position.  I went to many of the open and faculty sessions, saw, and heard
all four candidates.  I am hopeful that Dr. Oldham will be able to be
effective in the Provost position and will lead all of the Colleges of this
campus equally well.

 

Thanks again to Fran and the committee.  Now you can "catch up" on teaching
and scholarly pursuits.

I want to thank publicly the Provost Search Committee for the countless
hours invested in the search, including reading the dossiers of over 60
candidates, attending numerous meetings, giving up a weekend and several
nights to interview candidates, calling references, planning campus visits,
performing various duties while the four candidates were on campus plus
additional small to large tasks too numerous to mention.   Those of you who
have served on these committees in the past know the tremendous time
commitment to the process.  Our thanks go to these UTC faculty and staff
committee members: Stephanie Bellar, Matt Greenwell, Sean Richards, Andy
Novobilski, Gail Dawson, Sarah Sandefur, Jeff Burgin, Bob Lyon, Debbie Bell,
Karen Adsit,  and Theresa Liedtka; and to these community representatives:
Jim Hill and Jim Scales.  Barbara Verhine and Terry Denniston also provided
wonderful support to the search process. 

 

In addition, our thanks go to all of you who came to the meetings to meet
the candidates and completed evaluation forms.  

 

With the support of the campus community, Dr. Phil Oldham's tenure as
provost should be successful.
