Colleagues:

As a UTC representative to the Hamilton County Department of
Education's Coalition for Mathematics and Science Excellence I would
like to let you know about a way that UTC faculty and staff might
provide assistance to local K-12 teachers (and their students). A
year and a half ago the Coalition, with UTC's help as a major
sponsor, hosted a Math and Science Summit here in Chattanooga. One
of the outcomes of that summit was the realization that a need
existed for some sort of "clearinghouse" of information on help
available to teachers from members of the local community. Many
local folks have skills that could assist teachers, but they have no
way to let the teachers know this. We decided to develop a web site
where people who wanted to be mentors, lead field trips, give
seminars, answer teacher questions etc..., could indicate their
wishes. Over the past year, and with key help from UTC's Dr. Clint
Smullin and CECA students, the interactive web page is now just about
ready for use by local teachers. At this point I'd like to ask for
each of you to consider adding your name to the growing list of local
sources of technical or other assistance for our local K-12 teachers.
The process is easy, and once the data base of local resources grows
we will be able to insure that the system works as planned.
Eventually, teachers will be able to search through the database to
find all kinds of resources. To add your name to the list please
visit the following URL:

Then, at the bottom of the home page, click the please fill out our
affiliate form button.
Thanks for your assistance. Drop me a line if you have questions
about the Coalition.

Take care,

Henry Spratt
