The next film in the Spanish film series will be shown on Monday, February
18th at 7:00pm in Brock Hall, 201.
The movie, Nueba Yol / A Funny Way to Say New York, is from the Dominican
Republic. It is a 1996 film by Angel Muñiz. 104 minutes. In Spanish with
English subtitles.
Cast: Luisito Marti, Alfonso Zayas, Caridad Ravelo, Raúl Carbonell
About the film: This charming film about disappointment, triumph and the
American dream broke all box office records in the Dominican Republic. When
Balbuena (Luisito Marti) moves from Santo Domingo to New York ("Nueba Yol" in
Dominican slang) hoping to make a fortune, he is in for harsh disappointment,
but fins the inner resources to succeed and find love in this land of crime,
betrayal and strict labor laws.
