Linda,

That did not answer my question.

The question is will the system no longer allow us use social security
numbers to access advisement codes?

Since not all students seem to know their UTCID number I often have to use
their security number. I have heard from other staff members wondering if we
can continue to social security numbers to provide students their advisement
code?

Thank you.
Mary

Mary....it's time for the students to learn their UTCID....it's printed
on the front of the new MOCS card....you should no longer ask a student
for the SSN you should ask for the UTCID.

Linda,

Does this mean we will no longer be able to use social security numbers
to
provide the students their advisement codes?

I can now use either their social security or ID numbers to access their
advisement code?

I am finding some students do not know their ID numbers so I use their
social.

Thank you.

Subject: [UTCSTAFF] Very Important Message

Greetings....PLEASE READ THIS IMPORTANT EMAIL ABOUT THE SECURITY OF YOUR
SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER AND THE USE OF THE UTCID.

Several years ago UTC implemented measures to protect students from
identify theft by replacing the use of the Social Security Number with
the UTCID. UTCID numbers are printed on the new Mocs ID Cards.

During a transition period, UTC computer programs, registration
programs, and departmental offices accepted both the UTCID and Social
Security Number. Beginning with the spring registration on November 7
we will no longer use Social Security Numbers.

Consequently, the Records Office will no longer accept documents with a
Social Security Number. The Records Office staff has been instructed to
'black-out' the Social Security Number, return the document to the
student, and request that the student put the UTCID on the document.

Advisors, academic, administrative, and student services departments
should also discontinue use of the Social Security Number when
submitting documents to the Records Office through campus mail on behalf
of a student. Social Security Numbers should also no longer be used in
emails.

Other student services offices such as Bursar and Financial Aid are
being asked to stop accepting documentation with a student's Social
Security Number.

UTC is very concerned about protecting students' privacy and encourage
students to be active participants in protecting themselves from
identify theft.

Thank you for your cooperation in this very important concern.
