Dear Colleague,

I am pleased to report that the University Board of Trustees today approved
the following university requests:

      *  Approval of recommended faculty promotions and tenure for UTC;

      *  Approval of the change in ACT admissions floor from 16 to 17;

      * Approval of revising total hours in Baccalaureate degrees
generally to 120 hours;

      * Approval of the proposed Ed. D. in Learning and Leadership; and,

      * Approval of change of TOEFL floor from 500 to 550.

In addition, the Trustees authorized an increase in student fees of 7.9%
and the compensation plan proposed by the campus, essentially providing as
earlier outlined a 3% (or $750) continuing raise for all full time
employees on the date of record, June 30, 2004. Additionally, a 2%
one-time "bonus" will follow and be paid sometime in the early Fall,
perhaps October.

In separate action shared with the President and the Board today, SACS
approved the University of Tennessee Chattanooga for Level V (doctoral
programs).

Thanks to faculty, staff, the Faculty Senate, Deans, and Vice Chancellors
for your very fine work in creating an outstanding series of
recommendations to the Trustees for their consideration. Once again,
Chattanooga received a great deal of commendation from the President and
the Board. Special thanks to Marvin Ernst, John Trimpey, and John Friedl
for strong academic leadership. Special thanks to Richard Brown for
presenting our fiscal and compensation plans. (Our UTC Budget plans will
be formalized following the July 7, 2004, Budget Committee meeting at 2:00
p. m. )

Thanks to the Board of Trustees for their positive consideration of UTC
requests.

Bill
