>I hope you had a restful, if not too soggy, Memorial Day holiday. Summer is
>unofficially underway, which means lighter, fun fare in the arts.
>
>The Chattanooga Theatre Centre is offering one of the funniest theatre
>spoofs to come along in decades. Run, do not walk, to see "Moon Over
>Buffalo," a great backstage comedy featuring mistaken identities, fast
>entries and slamming doors, witty dialogue, and hilarious slapstick. When I
>saw it in New York, I laughed so hard, I thought they'd throw me out of the
>theatre. CTC's production opens this Friday, June 1.
>
>For more comedy on stage, this time with a classical bent, check out Family
>Theatre Workshop's production of Moliere's "Tartuffe", which also opens this
>weekend at Memorial Auditorium. This 18th-century comedy of manners just
>goes to show that some things never change-pretense is pretense, whatever
>century it's in, and it's all fair game for poking fun at.
>
>Another special treat comes our way this week. The Metropolitan Bells,
>under the direction of Ken Cochrane, will give a free performance at 8:00 at
>First-Centenary United Methodist Church. These are the best "ringers" in
>town, and they are as much fun to watch as to hear. I guarantee, you'll be
>amazed at what handbells can sound like and at the variety of music this
>talented group performs.
>
>This weekend brings the fourth annual Sculpture Symposium, at the Hunter
>Museum. Sponsored by the River Gallery, the Symposium features
>presentations on Saturday, June 2, by sculptors whose work will be exhibited
>at the River Gallery Sculpture Garden and a keynote address by David Levy,
>Director of the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC. All events are free, by
>the way.

>Nightfall is back again on Friday, and Riverbend is just a week away!
>Contact us to find out how to get free Riverbend pins!
