NEW UTC Online (Blackboard Version 6) Now Available!

Please flag and/or save this email. It contains valuable information and
links that you will need later.
Please read the entire email if you plan on using UTC Online (Blackboard 6)
for Fall 2003 Classes

Introduction:

The following email explains how to get on to the NEW UTC Online system. The
system is now available for use by faculty and staff for building Fall 2003
classes.

Schedule:
August 7th - New UTC Online System Available for Faculty and Staff
August 8th - Classes labeled fa03 moved from old to new system (Please make
no changes to classes that are on the old system and labeled fa03 until you
receive an email informing you that your class is available).
August 18th - New UTC Online System Available for Students
August 18th - Old UTC Online System no longer available

## Location and Logging On to Your Account on the new Unconfined: ##

You can reach the new UTC Online at http://utconline.utc.edu

# I do not see the login for the new system!
Do not use your Bookmarks. Click the link above or copy and paste it into
your browser window. You will see a gateway page with two buttons. One is
labeled "Login Summer 2003". This takes you to the old system. The other is
labeled "Login Fall 2003" this takes you to the new system.

Your username and password are the same as OneNet (Your UTCID and password).
Unless your old UTC Online account used the same username and password as
your OneNet account, it will not work for the new system. Use your OneNet
username and password!

# I don't have a UTCID!
UTC Online accounts are based on records in OneNet, the human resources
system and the student records system.
If you need a UTCID, please contact your department head.

#I don't know my UTCID!
The Forgot Password page on http://onenet.utc.edu will allow you to enter
your UTC email address (with SSN or birth date) and find your UTCID and
password. You cay also contact the Help Desk at 425-4000 or email
[log in to unmask]

# I know my UTCID and I still cannot log on!
You need to know your UTCID and OneNet password. The password can be found
on the Forgot Password page of OneNet (see above)
Some accounts may have been missed or may not be correctly labeled. Please
fill out this form
http://www.utc.edu/Departments/UTCOnLine/missingAccount.html

# My name is wrong!
Some personal information may not reflect the information you use for your
classes (nicknames, etc). Until all systems are better integrated, you may
use the following form to change your personal information on UTC Online
http://www.utc.edu/Departments/UTCOnLine/changeInfo.html (Note that this
change will only take place in UTC Online).

If you are able to log on, you should see a screen similar to the old UTC
Online.

## Your Courses ##

Your Fall 2003 courses should already be assigned to you. (This automation
has not been fully integrated yet and classes were matched to UTCIDs as best
as possible. You may be missing classes, you may have no classes or you may
have, in rare cases, the wrong class assigned to you).

# I am missing one or many classes!
Please use the following form to request that classes be assigned to you
http://www.utc.edu/Departments/UTCOnLine/assignCourses.html
Please note: In some cases, we may be unable to confirm that this class is
assigned to you in ASIS. In these cases, it may be necessary to confirm the
assignment with your department head.

# A class is assigned to me that I am not teaching!
Please use this form to let us know
http://www.utc.edu/Departments/UTCOnLine/assignmentError.html

# I need to COMBINE SECTIONS of a class!
If you wish to combine sections of a class (e.g. you are teaching psy101 001
002 and 003 and you want all students from these classes in a single UTC
Online class) please use this form
http://www.utc.edu/Departments/UTCOnLine/combineSections.html
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please do NOT begin building your course under one of the
sections. Please wait until the combined class is created. If you already
have begun building the combined course before you submit the form, please
note that on the form. If you have begun building your course in the old UTC
Online (Blackboard 5), please NOTE that you want that course moved into the
combined section.

# The class I built in the old UTC Online (Blackboard 5) is not on the NEW
UTC Online!
All classes that include fa03 in their course ID will be moved to the
correct location on Friday, August 6. PLEASE DO NOT UPDATE OR EDIT YOUR
CLASS IN THE OLD UTC ONLINE (BLACKBOARD 5) THIS FRIDAY, as some information
may be lost in the transfer. If you are COMBINING SECTIONS (see above) and
want the class you built in the old UTC Online moved to the combined class,
please note that on the Combine Sections form (see above). Otherwise it will
be moved to the matching course ID on the new system

# I did not label the class I built in the old UTC Online (Blackboard 5) as
fa03
# I want to copy an old class from the old UTC Online to the new UTC Online
You can archive your old class or class you built for Fall and bring it into
the new system:
- Go into the old UTC Online and open your class
- Go to the Control Panel
- Go to Course Utilities
- Go to Archive Course
- (1) Select the Content Areas you want to archive for this Course. In most
cases you want all areas except Users and Groups
- (2) Blackboard 5.5 package format (IMS 1.1 compatible) Use this option
which is already selected for you.
- (3) Submit
- You will see a screen that says "Click here to download the exported
course site." Click on the word here and download the file (class archive)
to your hard drive. Make sure to place the file in a folder you will be able
to find later (e.g. My Documents)
- Go to the new UTC Online UTC Online system and log in.
- Open class where you want to copy the old class to.
- Go to the Control Panel
- Go to Import Package
- (1) Use the browse button to find the file (class archive) you saved
earlier.
- (2) Select the Content Areas you wish to import. As before, in most cases
you want all Areas.
- (3) Submit
- You will see a Receipt screen showing any errors. In most cases, the only
errors you see will be related to users who Blackboard does not recognize.
"WARNING: The user assigned ownership of the announcement entitled "Welcome"
could not be located within the package." This means that Blackboard does
not know who to assign the announcement to since the way it keeps track of
users has changed between the two versions. As this error only seems to
occur with announcements and discussion boards, this should not adversely
affect those reusing old courses. In this case you could delete the old
Welcome announcement and create a new one.

# I want to archive my old class for future use!
Use the instructions above but stop after saving the file to disk.

# I am a course coordinator!
If you need to coordinate (build) several classes, some or all of which you
are not teaching please use this form
http://www.utc.edu/Departments/UTCOnLine/coord.html

## How do I? ##
# I need help setting up or operating my class!
