Alice,
While I can not respond to your concerns about the downtown classroom, I
would like to briefly respond to your concerns about the Grote lights
and the Brock Hall Elevator.

Honestly, I was not aware of an ongoing problem with any lights in Grote
Hall. Our service call history reflects that we have responded to 51
separate service requests for lights in that building since July 1, 06,
and I do not show any requests that are delinquent.  If, however, you
have lighting issue in your classroom please let us know and we will
have an electrician over as soon as possible.  

The Brock Hall elevator is another story altogether...Prior to January
we had received very few calls on this particular elevator- only four in
'06, and three in '05.  Since January, though, it has been the bane of
our electric shop's existence.  Our technicians have responded to over a
dozen calls and identified several different malfunctions; the majority
of these having to do with the door controls. The irony is, we are
probably talking about $2 relay causing all these headaches- but finding
it can really be a lesson in frustration.  So, for now the best we can
do is assure you that we are working hard to remedy this problem and
express our appreciation for your patience.

respectfully request that before the university does this would it be
possible to:
fix the elevator in Brock Hall
fix the hanging light covers in Grote (I am now referred to as Marie, as

Antoinette). The front row of students face the recreation of the French
Revolution and I don't teach history.
fix the lights, period
put podiums in the classrooms so that when the elevator is on the fritz
we
don't get hernias carrying the tvs up the stairs
add desks to Grote
put desks on the chairs in 201 Brock
etc.
We have so many needs on this campus both for safety and for education.
Please consider helping us out here before going downtown. And, if you
go
downtown, please don't sandwich my class there between two here on
campus....
