Faculty and Staff,
I am the Director of CAP/AAA Program at UTC. I have been working with
staff members to improve the services to students and faculty. An
important area that has come to the attention of this program is the need
for consistent and strict guidelines for students who take their test with
us. Guidelines regulate that only students with a specific disability which
has been certified are allowed have testing accommodations through CAP/AAA.
The program has revised the test guidelines that will be used for these
students. These rules are posted in each of the testing rooms. All rules
are strictly enforced to protect the validity of students' test results. A
copy of these guidelines follows:
COLLEGE ACCESS PROGRAM - TESTING GUIDELINES
FORMS
Students must submit proctor forms three working days before the exam
(schedule is posted on wall and on back of proctor form). Proctor forms
must be filled out completely - change of
exam time or additional materials for use during the exam must be approved
by the professor.
MATERIALS
Each student will only take into the testing area the materials the
professor has approved to use during the test. The instructor should be
notified that you will be using a reader or transcriber.
TOOLS
Each student must provide his/her own paper and pens or pencils.
TIME
The student will be allowed twice the time of the regular timed exam.
MWF - 50 minute class - 2 hours for the exam
                TT - 1 hr. 15 min class - 2 ½ hours for the exam
RESTRICTIONS
Students should not leave the testing room to smoke, go to lunch, to make
telephone calls, etc. Every effort should be made to remain in the testing
room throughout the duration of the exam. You may take snacks and/or drinks
with you to testing room. Also feel free to move around in the testing room
if necessary.
COMPUTERS
If you must take your test using a computer, you may not use your own
computer. A computer is available for your use in the testing room.
PROCTORS
You must notify the CAP office if you will need a reader or transcriber for
the exam. The proctor is to facilitate your taking of the exam and can not
be your regular tutor. The CAP office will assign the reader/transcriber
for you.
CHEATING
If you are caught cheating, your exam will be taken up immediately, your
instructor notified and CAP test-taking privileges will be suspended. After
review the decision will be made if you will be allowed to continue taking
tests in the CAP office. Cheating can result in dismissal from CAP as well
as a hearing with the UTC Honor Court.
EXCEPTIONS
Exceptions or modifications to these guidelines will be at the discretion
of the Director of the College Access Program.

We would appreciate any suggestions or comments that would improve the
services of CAP/AAA. If you have any questions, please call 755-4008 or
