During the spring 2000 semester, Dr. Marilyn M. Helms, UC Foundation and
George Lester Nation Professor of Management, will be teaching abroad with
the support of two prestigious awards: a Fulbright Lecturing and Research
Award and a Visiting Professorship Award.

Temple University has appointed Dr. Helms to the position of Professor in
the Department of General and Strategic Management, a temporary position
beginning January 15, 2000 and ending February 12, 2000.   Dr. Helms will
teach a 5-week EMBA course on entrepreneurship in Tokyo, Japan, a class
featuring a mix of managers and executives from Asia, South America, and
Japan.

Dr. Helms also has been selected as a Fulbright Scholar by the Chair of the
J. William Fulbright Scholarship Board and the Council for International
Exchange of Scholars.  Her award supports lecturing and research
opportunities Coimbra, Portugal. From late March through mid-June 2000, Dr.
Helms will teach at the University of Coimbra, lecturing graduate-level
students and conducting research in international management.

Dr. Helms hopes both of these opportunities will enable her to gather
relevant, current international information that she can use in her
strategic management classes at UTC.
