The following is a message I received from Jim Crichton, a fellow rower
from Lookout Rowing Club. If you're interested in learning to row,
please consider reading his message.

If you want to talk to UTC folks who are now rowing or have rowed in the
past, you can contact me, David Brodsky, Mike Biderman, John Phillips,
or Ed McMahon.

Bob Fulton

To: Rowers

Hello, my name is Jim Crichton, and I am part of a Lookout Rowing Club
(LRC) committee which is actively engaged in attracting new devotees to
the
sport of rowing. Your name has been provided as person who is interested
in
either learning or reacquainting themselves with this exciting sport.

LRC is an active rowing club in the city of Chattanooga which has grown
from a couple of people who wanted to participate in the sport of rowing
to
a significant organization of young and adult rowers. At one point in
its'
rich history the facilities of LRC hosted the US Women's Olympic Rowing
Team. LRC also sponsors the very popular fall Chattanooga Head Race,
attracting 1000 rowers throughout the Southeast.

This year, seven sessions of rowing classes are being offered to
interested
individuals. They are being taught by people with substantial rowing
experience and quite familiar with teaching fundamentals to varied
levels
of capability. The lessons are focused on learning the art of
"sculling",
or for the unacquainted, moving a beautiful slender boat, equipped with
a
sliding seat and two oars, gracefully, through the water. Rowing
provides
a low impact but very thorough exercise that uses many of the major
muscle
groups and burns significant calories.

The classes this year will start in May and will continue, if there is
demand, through July. They will be offered, as shown below, either in
the
morning from 8-10 or the evening from 5:30 to 7:30. They are designed
as
two-week programs rowing Monday-Thursday and Saturday mornings (9-11).

5/05-5/17 PM
5/12-5/23 AM
5/19-5/31 PM
6/02-6/14 PM
6/16-6/28 TBD ( time to be determined)
7/07-7/19 TBD
7/21-8/02 TBD

The cost of the training program is $150/person. After you learn we are
hopeful, that you will also want to join LRC. The basic individual
membership fee is $350/year, however, for the year that you learn and
pay
for the training program, LRC is offering a $100 rebate, so the
individual
dues would be $250 as compared to the standard $350. We also offer
family
and student memberships. Please call if you have a question on the fee
structure.

Registration for the class can be done online by accessing the following
website: http://lrc.chattrowing.org.

Please call or e-mail (at my address below, please) if you have any
questions.

Jim Crichton
