Dr. Lucien Ellington, UC Foundation Professor, has received $162,834 from
Columbia University and the Freeman Foundation to continue directing a
Satellite Coordinating site at UTC for the National Consortium for Teaching
About Asia (NCTA) program.
NCTA, which was founded in 1998, provides secondary school world history
teachers with 30-hour seminars and personal reading materials that will
enhance their knowledge about the history and culture of East Asian countries,
focusing on China, Japan and Korea. In addition, participants are entitled to
library grants for their schools and receive
stipends for their participation. NCTA has over 1,000 active participants
across the nation, serving over 17 states. Dr. Ellington coordinates three
seminars each year that provide an opportunity for 75 teachers in Tennessee,
Arkansas, and Mississippi to participate in the program.
Congratulations to Dr. Ellington, and good luck with the success of this
project!
