Dear Colleague,

The university is making plans to implement a new Student Information
System. When established, the new system will greatly improve the way we
gather, store, and share information regarding our students.

The Student Information System Advisory Committee, that Larry Garrison and I
co-chair, is currently reviewing our current practices and looking for
opportunities to improve the quality of service a well-designed student
information system affords.

To help us in the planning process, we would like to hear from you. What
functions would you like to see in a new student information system? Several
of the recommendations that we have already received include:
*       provide "real-time" degree audits to help students and faculty
during advising sessions
*       ensure accurate checking of course prerequisites and co-requisites
during the registration process
*       provide faculty with the option of receiving pictures of students
along with the class roster

I have scheduled four sessions in the Signal Mountain Room of the Student
Center. The specific days are times are:
1.      Tuesday, Jan. 4 at 3:30 pm
2.      Thursday, Jan. 6 at 9:30 am
3.      Friday, Jan. 7 at 11:00 am
4.      Friday, Jan. 7 at 3:00 pm
There will be light refreshments at each meeting.

Please plan on attending one of these meeting to share with us your thoughts
about how we can improve the way we collect and use information on campus.
