There has been a fair amount of discussion related to safety for the UTC
students as they return to class, especially around the construction areas.
I'd like to bring attention to an even more critical area - safety for the
children attending Brown Academy. As a parent of a child attending daycare
at this school, I have had the opportunity to observe student activity in
the area. It has been my experience that UTC students are driving MUCH too
fast and erratic (that is probably a kind description). Yesterday
afternoon I observed two cars carrying UTC students fly around a bulldozer
without a second thought for the many elementary school children
present. The UTC place dorms are immediately adjacent to Brown Academy,
with the garage entrance immediately across the street from the area where
children access buses. I have yet to see a UTC campus police, or other,
presence that might work toward more safe driving. I suggest that the UTC
police should have a very visible presence in the area, and that UTC
administration/resident staff must address these concerns with the UTC
student drivers in the area.
