Hey, folks,

More interesting and fun offerings around town this week. Hey, before you
go to the open house on Thursday, come to the Fine Arts Center for a
glimpse at the beautiful and the macabre.

Are you interested in bats, wolves, silent classics, Dracula or opera? At
1:40 on Thursday the 29th, composer Alva Henderson and poet/lyricist Dana
Gioia will appear in the Hayes Concert Hall as part of the Cadek Dept of
Music Seminar series. Thanks to Suntrust Chair of Humanities Dr. William
McClay, the Music Dept and the Patten Series, Mr. Henderson and Mr. Gioia
will discuss their opera, Nosferatu, based on the F.W. Murnau film. We will
also listen to selected segments from previews of the opera, which we hope
to produce as a world premier on campus next season.

Dr. McClay will lead the discussion, and Marianna Allen, from our Fine Arts
Center staff, will perform the "Salve Regina," which leads to the climax of
the work. Ms. Allen will be accompanied by Martha Summa-Chadwick, from the
Cadek Dept of Music.

I hope many of you will come to learn about the creation of an opera, from
the first idea to mounting the production.

If you have any questions, write me back or call me at 755-4379.

Thanks,
Kim

>Another very special holiday tradition also takes place this week at
