GEAR UP, in its ongoing effort to bolster reading abilities of inner-city
middle students, is piloting a special reading program at Chattanooga
Middle. To do this, we need volunteers who can spend 40 minutes (11:20 -
noon) each Thursday at Chattanooga Middle (a five minute drive from the UTC
campus), working one-on-one with a 7th or 8th grader.
We will supply you with all reading materials and activities you would need
to do this work, so no special preparation would be required on your part.
We plan to launch this program on November 1st and continue it through the
school year. If you think you might be interested and would like more
information, please let me know via email or telephone (755-5386) by
Tuesday October 30.
UTC has been extremely generous and supportive of GEAR UP's effort to work
with our schools, and we appreciate any consideration you can give to
helping us with this program.
