Dear Colleagues,
One way for those of us who believe, as Mike Russell does, that the local
United Way organization is making a mistake in acquiesing in the Boy
Scouts' policy of discriminating against gays is to write a check to a
particular community organization covered under the United Way umbrella,
xerox the check, (being sure to write XEROX COPY across it), and send the
xerox, along with your shredded pledge card, and an explanatory note or
letter, to whoever is the head of the local United Way organization. I saw
someone do something similar when she wanted to object to the local PBS
station's engaging in censorship; she wrote a check to Georgia Public
Television and sent a copy to the local PBS station along with an
explanatory letter.
Just a thought.
