It is now 7 p.m. and I have just finished teaching my last Cadek student
for the day. My spring break consists of not having to teach my two
university classes in the mornings. I'm still here teaching this afternoon,
as I have been all week.

I want to second Irina's letter. She summed up our situation well. I want
to make one small correction. She mentioned that Cadek provides practice
rooms for students. Not anymore. When the radio station moved in, they took
over all of our practice rooms, as well as two classrooms. Our students
have no where to go to warm up for their lessons, unless they want to walk
over to FAC. (Not many of our parents like that idea.) But the UTC music
department does have access to the rest of our building. Our two entities
are closely tied together...and we want to stay that way. We don't mind
sharing our faculty with the music department. Some of us feel that
certain "powers that be" are apparently unaware of how much we do for
"academics". Hopefully they are getting the word. Not only do many of us
teach for the music department, we also are an outlet for music students to
be teaching interns.

It would be a crying shame to see Cadek once again being viewed almost as a
"step-child", with our 100th year celebration coming up in 2004-2005. We
should be getting MORE support, not less, even if it is just to give us the
time we need to cut the cord, so to speak.

Faculty Associate (for the last 17 years, Cadek faculty for the last 30!)
