Good Afternoon
It is time for Reality Check! Please note the message below. The
Chattanooga Chamber is looking for volunteers. If you have never had the
opportunity to volunteer for Reality Check, think about it this year.
Reality Check is a 2-4 hour event (depending on the school and your
availability) for 9th graders in Hamilton County Schools. Students are
assigned an educational attainment, career and family scenario. They are
given a monthly sum of money and are charged with paying the bills for a
month (mortgage/rent, transportation, utitilities, food, child care,
entertainment, etc). Volunteers work at one of 12 booths where students
come to make purchasing decisions. If students can't make ends meet, they
can go to the SOS booth and secure a second job.
Reality Check is designed to help students understand the correlation
between education and quality of life. Over 3,500 students receive this
simulation each year with 400 volunteers assisting.
