Hello, All,

The UTC Psychology Department continues its Fall 2006 Colloquium Series this
Wednesday, November 1, 2006, from 3-4PM in the UC Auditorium. All are
welcome and encouraged to attend!

Dr. Talia Welsh will speak; the title of her talk is "Normality and
Abnormality: When is an Individual a Person?" An abstract is provided below.

Traditionally, philosophy has focused on one kind of subject-the rational,
autonomous subject. Critiques from contemporary philosophy, in particular
feminist theory and postmodern theory, have called into question the status
of this subject. In addition, research in psychology and psychiatry has
added to these critiques of the "normal" subject. This presentation will
outline the history of this debate and focus on the discussion of normality.
To what degree do pathological accounts provide a background on which to
understand normal subjecthood and to what degree does pathology challenge
our very conceptions of normality?

Hope to see you there,

Angelique :-)

Cancer is so limited that:
It cannot cripple love
It cannot shatter hope
It cannot corrode faith
It cannot destroy peace
It cannot kill friendship
It cannot suppress memories
It cannot silence courage
It cannot invade the soul
It cannot steal eternal life
It cannot conquer the spirit (Dedicated to My Father)
