Dr. Deborah Arfken, Dean of the Graduate School, and Dr. Gavin Townsend,
Director of the University Honors Program, recently collaborated with the
Rotary Club of Chattanooga to fund single course scholarships for several
UTC students. Also involved with these awards is Dr. Frederick Obear,
chancellor emeritus and chair of the Rotary scholarship committee this year.
The Rotary Club of Chattanooga selected students who are alumni of
Chattanooga City or Hamilton County schools to receive the scholarships.
Eligible students were interviewed by the Rotary Club Scholarship Committee
and chosen based on both merit and need. This year, the Rotary Club
provided enough funding for three graduate students in the education
program to be awarded a total of $3900 as well as five undergraduate
students who received a total of $2100.
These scholarships display a commitment to meeting the needs of UTC students.
Congratulations to Drs. Arfken, Townsend, and Obear for their success in
securing
this assistance.
